First time wins are always fun to watch. You get to see the pure emotion in Victory Lane, and that’s the day everyone realizes the potential behind the wheel. Erik Jones’s first race came at Daytona International Speedway, where anything can happen.
The first thing Erik Jones said when he got out of the car was, “Oh boy, how ‘bout that race boys and girls!…That was something else!”
When asked about how how he thought the race went he said, “I thought we were out of it but then we were right back in it… What an awesome day!”
Rutledge Wood, the interviewer at the Start Finish Line asked, “The years of handwork… the fans, what do you want to say to them,” “Thank you! Thank you so much! It was a lot of handwork to be here today!” Jones exclaimed, overcome with emotion.
The booth had high praises for Jones as well:
“This was a drive this young man will remember for the rest of his life,” - Rick Allen
“He’s the real deal,” -Jeff Burton
In Victory Lane Jones said, “Oh man what a day, what a day. I didn’t think we’d have shot to win it there,” “I’ve never been that good on Superspeedways…”
NASCAR Fans have been anxiously awaiting Jones’s first win since he joined the series last year in 2017. Last season Jones raced the 76 for Front Row Motorsports with Martin True Jr.. Over the Off-Season Jones was moved to Joe Gibbs Racing, and he now drives the 20.
